A challenging environment
Just
walk down to your basement and you know it immediately—the
basement is different than any other area of your home. It’s
cooler, more humid and prone to moisture. The basement
also has plumbing and other mechanical equipment that,
when covered
with drywall, become difficult and costly to access. Owens
Corning knew there had to be a better way to finish the
basement.
How we met the challenge
With Owens Corning’s history as a leader in home building
products and experts in building science, we had the resources
and knowledge to create a better finishing solution for basements.
Mold and moisture are big concerns in basements, so we utilized
our expertise with fiberglass insulation (we invented it)
to create insulated walls that breathe, don’t trap moisture,
and make rooms warm and quiet too! The walls are also designed
to be quickly and easily removed for access to your foundation
and plumbing.
Finishing a basement is a cost-effective way to add living
space
Compared to the expense and hassle of building an addition,
finishing your basement is a great value. A 2004 Remodeling
Magazine Cost vs. Value Report stated that the average cost
per square foot to finish a basement is less than half that
to put on an addition. Remember, when you finish your basement
you already own the space... take advantage of it! Finishing your basement is not only a good investment that
can increase the value of your home; it can also lower your
energy bills by 30%.* With energy prices going through the
roof, finishing your basement provides great value for your
investment. Your unfinished basement is a clean slate. Your basement
can be transformed into the room of your dreams—virtually
anything that you desire.
